What is an aquatic habitat?

Picture
Marine life
Imagine all the different types of mammals that live in the ocean. These mammals include species of dolphins, whales, fish, and turtles. Like humans, mammals have a home just like us. The definition of an aquatic habitat is a living place for aquatic animals. There are different types of aquatic habitats. The aquatic habitats include streams, canals, rivers, ponds, reservoirs, lakes, and other types of bodies of water. What would happen if all of these habitats were destroyed? What would happen to all the living mammals that were present? Who would be affected?
Even though the ocean is underwater and we are on land, we should still care about the the marine life as much as we care about life on land.

Threatened habitats?

Picture
There are two types of habitats that are being impacted. These habitats are coral reefs and mangrove forests. What do YOU know about these two habitats? Did you know that some people compare coral reefs to the poor of the society?
First, coral reefs are considered the tropical forests of the ocean and they are being taken for granted because of the luxury fish that swims in and around the coral reefs. Coral reefs are being also being threatened because the climate of the temperature are increasing and the increase in temperature is causing bleaching and also diseases. What happens if the coral reefs are being threatened? Coral reefs are the food source and security of the young fish that swim throughout the ocean. This is why people use the comparison of the poor to coral reefs. The poor provide the food for people of the upper class and there's no care for them because they are the providers for the people of the society.
Second, mangrove forests are keys to a healthy marine ecology. Mangrove forests are livings things that people do not care about and would not mind if the mangrove forests are destroyed. If there are no mangrove forests there won't be a healthy marine life. We should care for the mangrove forests because if we don't, then there won't be a living place for marine animals to live.

Habitat destruction, habitat alteration, habitat fragmentation.

These are three type that affect living conditions of animals.
Habitat destruction is it the total loss of a living function. When a habitat is destroyed, there is no function for it anymore because it is completely destroyed. A cause of habitat destruction is urbanization.
Habitat alteration is when there are changes in the environment and it affects the ecosystem and how the ecosystem operates. An example if habitat alteration is livestock grazing because grazing animals such as cattle can affect aquatic vegetation and can cause erosion.
Habitat fragmentation is a secondary affect of habitat destruction. The most common affect is the elimination of animals from its habitats because their habitats were already destroyed. The secondary affect is when populations are isolated because their original habitats were destroyed.

Reality check.

Picture
YOU may not realize it, but the actions that we do are affecting the life of many marine animals. Our actions reflect what is going to happen in the future. These actions are ruining our aquatic habitats. The actions include: over fishing, coastal development, construction of dams, stream channelization (increase rate of water through a specific channel), pollution (plastics and trash), and ship channels. Also, a natural affect is climate change and we cannot control that.

Watch this video about how a marine habitat got destroyed by a chemical. Nearly 80% of its habitat was destroyed by the use of chemicals by the local government.
