Psalm 24: 1-2

"The earth is the LORD'S and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters."

Conclusion.

We are people of God and therefore we should be stewards of the earth we live on. We have to care for the ocean and the marine life that is swimming in the ocean. The actions that we do affect the marine life, therefore it can be a form of oppression. We, as society, are treating our underwater forest with no respect. Marine animals and their living foundations are being threatened by pollution, over fishing, and other human activities. We have to live in the Reign of God and imagine if WE were the marine animals living in the ocean that are being threatened by so many things. Put yourself in a fish's shoes!

According to a theologian,

Matthew Fox, author of Creation Spirituality, states many points about God's creation. One of his quotes from Creation Spirituality is: "Creation is, in many respects, what our species make of it here on earth...Humans are quite capable of sinning against creation, of missing the mark of our purpose in being on this planet and in this universe. In this sense, sin is a turning away from creation and its author, the divine one who dwells in all things" (Creation Spirituality, pg 9). Doing anything bad to our environment is considered a sin according to Matthew Fox. There are positive actions that we can do to stop destruction of aquatic habitats and the lives that are living in it.

Actions speak louder than words.

Here are some actions WE could do to stop threatening marine life:
  1. Less fishing because it will wipe out the biodiversity that is within the habitats.
  2. Reducing water pollution by not throwing our trash (plastics, wrappers, etc) into the ocean
  3. Feedlots because it is a specific environment in which putting fish into a form of environment so they won't get harmed. Feedlots is a form of aquaculture.
  4. Less use of ships because they use ship channels which can cause a change in the aquatic habitats.
  5. Protest around factories and companies that do too much overfishing or oil spills.
WE can make a difference. All we need is a little push to do something small that can turn into something big later on. First step is informing others about the topic. Then from there on, you can do anything to make a difference!
